The second full day of camp was one for the memory books. From the moment campers woke up, the sunshine seemed to invite us outdoors, and we happily answered. With blue skies overhead and just the right amount of breeze, today was perfect for our very first water day.
The pool quickly became the star of the morning. Cannonballs, belly flops, and graceful dives all made appearances, while handstand contests and endless splashing had the whole group laughing. It’s always amazing to see how quickly new friendships are cemented when there’s a pool involved—suddenly kids who only met yesterday are cheering each other on, comparing tricks, and inventing games together.
Lunch was a comfort food classic: grilled cheese with tomato soup. Judging by the empty trays, it was the runaway hit of the day. Later, everyone had a chance to try their hands at clay sculpting, molding all sorts of imaginative creations that will harden overnight and be ready to paint soon. The artistic focus offered a perfect balance after all the morning’s action, letting campers slow down and get creative.
Dinner brought another crowd-pleaser: chicken and waffles. Between bites and laughter, the dining hall echoed with the kind of happy noise that tells us campers are not just eating well, but truly enjoying being together.
We’ve been careful with sunscreen under the summer sun, but it looks like we’ll be doubling up on bug spray tomorrow.
As the quiet settles in, campers are tucked into their bunks once more, and the counselors are doing one last walk around the grounds before signing off. It’s only Day 2, but the rhythm of camp is in full swing now, and if today is any indication, the rest of the week will be unforgettable.
